Legal Credit Repair Methods

To better understand what legal credit repair is, it would be helpful to understand a few types of illegal credit repair:

Illegal: Changing your social security number to obtain a clean bill of credit.
If any company should suggest this type of credit repair, report them to the authorities.

Illegal: Disputing every item on your credit report, regardless of nature.
The Fair Credit Reporting Act specifically states that only items that are unverifiable, inaccurate or misleading should be disputed. Items that are clearly yours, and reflect your credit history should not be disputed.

Illegal: Charging for services that have not yet been completed.
This is to protect the consumer from fraudulent companies that charge for services that never get completed (charging to "repair your credit", then hitting the road...)

So, what exactly is Legal Credit Repair?

Legal Credit Repair consists of removing the negative items on a credit report. There are a few different methods of going about this, the most common and effective are:

"Goodwill" Negotiation Negotiating directly with creditors and asking them to "please" remove negative items from your credit reports is a viable method of credit repair for mild late-pay accounts. There are no laws that require that negative items stay on your reports for any amount of time, and creditors have the ability to simply remove these items if they see that it could somehow work to their benefit, even if that simply means a pleased customer.

Credit Disputation The Fair Credit Reporting Act gives you the right to contact credit bureaus directly and dispute items on your credit reports. Just as in a court of law, you have the right to plead "not guilty" to negative information on your credit reports, and leave the burden of proof to the credit bureaus. You can dispute any and all items on your credit reports that you feel classify as inaccurate, unverifiable, or misleading. If the bureaus can not verify that the information on your reports is indeed correct, then those items must be deleted. Learn More.

The three main credit bureaus are: TransUnion, Experian and Equifax. Lenders judge your credit worthiness using the FICO scoring system. Your FICO score is calculate with information from these credit bureaus by using the amount you owe on non-mortgage-related accounts such as credit cards, your payment history, and your credit history. The FICO score ranges from 300 to 850. The higher your FICO score, the lower your interest rate will be. Since it’s possible the information from the credit bureaus is inaccurate, it is very important you check your credit report on a regular basis. Since a high FICO score can save you thousands of dollars on your home mortgage or car loan, it is very important that you repair your credit immediately if your FICO score is below 680.

Philadelphia is the pride of Pennsylvania, rich with history and home of our nation’s historic foundations. The City of Brotherly Love is indeed rooted in camaraderie and freedom as America’s birthplace. The early, vibrant spirit of Philadelphia remains strong with festivals like the Philadelphia Freedom Festival and Sunuco Welcome America, both showcasing America’s diversity with authentic, ethnic food, beautiful dance, celebratory book readings, and movies. With national historical sites like Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed, and the Liberty Bell, there are an abundance of city tours waiting to showcase the beauty of Philly. The architecture of the prominent Society Hill and other Philadelphian neighborhoods are reminiscent of Victorian style and early 20th century design, including the homes of Edgar Allan Poe and Betsy Ross, as well as the original Philadelphian row houses. The city’s appreciation for culture extends to its unique musical history, where the Philadelphia soul originated. The Live Aid concert was hosted at John F. Kennedy Stadium and the global super show Live 8 was held on the Ben Franklin Parkway. The city also hosts First Friday events where many local galleries in Old City are open late and free to guests. After enjoying the sights, the famous Philly cuisine is a must with hoagies, soft pretzels, water ice, and of course, the Philly cheesesteak. Try Geno’s and Pat’s in South Philly for two of the most famed cheesesteak outlets. The Reading Terminal Market provides an array of Philadelphia flavor with the greatest restaurants, farm stalls, and shops. Just outside the Center City the King of Prussia Mall provides shopping galore as one of the nation’s largest shopping malls. The fun doesn’t stop there because the city is one of the elite few with all four major sports. From the Philadelphia Eagles to the Philadelphia Phillies, the Flyers, and the Philadelphia 76ers, there is an abundance of indoor and outdoor entertainment for the sport enthusiast. As one of the largest college towns in the United States, there are over 80 colleges, universities, trade, and specialty schools, namely the prominent Temple University and University of Pennsylvania. Not to mention the city is renowned as the national center of law because of the prestigious University of Pennsylvania Law School. With one of the highest student concentrations of the East Coasts, the nightlife is truly one-of-a-kind. The South Street and Old City areas are host to a plethora of entertainment venues that are vibrant once the sun sets. The Avenue of Arts contains a delightful variety of restaurants and theatres, with the nation’s oldest continually operating venue, the Academy of Music. The easily accessible city is served by the Philadelphia International Airport and is friendly to pedestrian, cars, bus, and train. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is truly the place to be.

Pennsylvania is known as the keystone state for good reason. It was centrally located among the original 13 colonies and one of the most productive in terms of industry. Even today, it is still one of the top ten producers in the nation in terms of gross state product. It is also home to two of America’s greatest cities, Philadelphia to the east and Pittsburgh to the west. Must-see sights in Philadelphia include the Liberty Bell, the Franklin Institute, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Independence Hall. Witnessing a Philadelphia Flyers or Philadelphia Eagles game is also a must. In Pittsburgh, visitors can explore the Pittsburgh Zoo, catch a Pittsburgh Penguins hockey game, or watch the rugged Pittsburgh Steelers football team in action. In between the two cities lies Penn State, whose famed football team has the luxury of playing in the second largest stadium in the US, holding over 107,000 fans. Aside from history and sports, Pennsylvania also offers plenty of recreational activities, including lots of hunting and fishing. Or, visitors can take a scenic drive through Old Pennsylvania Dutch territory, located in the south central portion of the state, where they’ll find the Amish and Mennonites living their own unique and inspiring way of life. In the northeast are the Pocono Mountains, famed for their serene wooded beauty, fishing, golfing, and honeymooning. And, though a fact not widely known, Pennsylvania also has 51 miles of coastline along Lake Eerie, which is great news for fishers, swimmers, boaters, and sun seekers. Finally, for those wanting an adrenaline-boost, Pennsylvania can surely deliver with several exciting amusement parks, including Hershey Park, Idlewild Park, Lakemont Park, and Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom. And don’t forget, Pennsylvania is also home to the famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil. I wonder what he’ll predict this year?
